Ian Wright Confident In Arsene Wenger

Arsenal legend Ian Wright says that manager Arsene Wenger can definitely bring success to the club, but only if he is able to compete with the rest of the top clubs in terms of money to spend. After a long period, Wenger decided to splash the cash on a midfielder. The club brought in Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid for £ 42 million, which is right now the club’s transfer record. The German midfielder may have suffered from a drop in form in the second half of the season, but the quality of the team has improved massively this campaign.

There in contention to end the trophy drought, which has plagued the club since 2005. After Arsenal reached the FA Cup finals following their 4-2 win over Wigan on penalties, Wright said that he is confident that Wenger may eventually lead the club to glory once again. However, he is concerned that the club may not be able to compete for trophies regularly if they are not in the same playing field as a club like Chelsea and Manchester city in terms of transfer money. Even Manchester United are expected to open the wallet in the summer with more than £ 100 million set aside for new signings.

“I’ve never been one to call for the manager. But what I want him to do is to spend the kind of money that’s going to get Arsenal to compete properly with Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool, who are emerging. If Arsene can get the money and get those players, they can get to that level. All I want Arsenal to do is go in for the same players that Man City and Chelsea or Liverpool might get,” said Wright, was critical of Wenger only a couple of months ago after the team were knocked out of the league and Champions League.
