ARSENAL: WRIGHT IN AGREEMENT WITH ARTETA

index 0

Arsenal legend Ian Wright has agreed with manager Mikel Arteta on the assessment of the just concluded season. Ian Wright spoke about the assessment of Arsenal’s season while he was on Premier League TV last week Friday, two days before the final day of the season. According to him, the season is a disappointment and not a failure.

Ian Wright disclosed that sixth spot at the end of this season would have been progress on the eighth spot from last season. However, the manner of defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United to end the season leaves a sour taste in the mouth of the Arsenal fans of what could have been in terms of Champions League football. The Gunners failed to qualify for the Champions League after blowing a four-point lead over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur with three games left.

Spurs led Arsenal by two points ahead of the final day of the season after the Gunners were beaten in the North London Derby and during the away game against Newcastle United.

On the final day of the season, Spurs needed just one point at the home of bottom club Norwich City to seal Champions League football for next season at the expense of Arsenal. They did more than that with the 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City thanks to the goals from DejanKulusevski (brace), Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min (brace). Arsenal also scored five times on the final day of the season in a 5-1 win at home to Everton, but it was not enough for Champions League football. Gabriel Martinelli (penalty), Eddie Nketiah, Cedric Soares, Gabriel Magalhaes and Martin Odegaard scored for the Gunners, while Manchester United loanee Donny Van De Beek scored the only goal for Everton. Dutchman Van De Beek is on loan at Everton from Manchester United.
