The former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has told Arsenal news that the England international Jermain Defoe is the perfect replacement for Robin van Persie at Arsenal. Arsenal lost the services of the star striker van Persie in the summer. Even though they have got £ 24 million in exchange for the Dutchman, it still leaves them extremely short up front according to the former Arsenal striker Ian Wright. Along with the likes of Thierry Henry, Ian Wright is regarded as one of the best strikers to have played for Arsenal over the last few decades. He is of the opinion that only Jermain Defoe is capable of replacing Robin van Persie at the moment.
Jermain Defoe has often been regarded as one of the natural finishers in the game, but he has not been given the right amount of opportunities in the last few seasons by Tottenham according to Ian Wright. Hence, it would be making a lot of sense to actually make a concrete bid for the player. Ian Wright has said that for all the work done by Lukas Podolski and Giroud, Arsenal still remain light up front. It was clearly seen in the first two matches of the season against Sunderland and Stoke city.
“If I was Arsene Wenger, I would make an audacious bid for Defoe, whose face doesn’t seem to fit at Spurs and who looks up for a move. Defoe would be the perfect replacement for Robin van Persie, the penalty box predator to finish off all those half-chances which are currently going begging. Two games and no goals show where Arsenal’s problems lie and there are few better finishers around than Jermain Defoe,” said Ian Wright in his column on the British tabloid the Sun. Arsenal recently got their first win of the season against Liverpool.
