Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has singled out defender Gabriel Magalhaes for praise after the Gunners continued their recent poor run in the league with a defeat at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the Arsenal legend, Gabriel Magalhaes was the only player who tried to make things happen for the Gunners during the game and that the Brazilian centre back is the only shining light in a very poor Premier League campaign until date.
Ian Wright was speaking to Premier League productions shortly after the game played at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday evening. The ex-England international was visibly not happy with the display from the Arsenal players as the club slumped to a third consecutive league defeat at home following the 2-1 loss to Wolves.
The visitors took the lead through the impressive Pedro Neto on 27 minutes before the aforementioned Gabriel equalised for the Gunners three minutes later. Daniel Pondence got what turned out to be the winning goal of the game for Wolves with three first half minutes left to play.
Arsenal have made a terrible start to the new league season after a run of five defeats from the opening ten games of the season. The North Londoners are languishing in the bottom half of the table. With 13 points from the ten games played, Arsenal are the 14th best team in the 20-team division.
The Gunners have picked up a solitary point in their last three league games ahead of the North London Derby clash with league leaders Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
Ian Wright also talked about young Arsenal player Bukayo Saka and the huge expectations on his shoulders. The ex-Gunners forward told Premier League productions that the recently capped England international has coped well with the pressure to deliver for his team until now.
