Former Arsenal striker and current pundit Ian Wright has said that he finds the lack of goals from Fernando Torres to the embarrassing more than anything else. Fernando Torres cost £ 50 million for Chelsea in the January transfer window of 2011. Since then, he has been one of the most expensive flops in the world football. He has scored only three goals in the league this season, and is on course to becoming one of the greatest ever flops. Ian Wright is regarded to be one of the greatest strikers to have played for Arsenal. He is only behind Arsenal legend Henry in terms of the number of goals scored for the club.
Ian Wright has 185 goals for Arsenal, which was a record until Henry took over from him. The prolific striker of the late 1990s has said that he is at loss for words when it comes to explaining the situation Fernando Torres is experiencing at the moment. It is certainly not like Fernando Torres is not getting opportunities to score. Fernando Torres has had some of the easiest opportunities to put the ball into the back of the net recently, but has managed to miss them all.
“I haven’t got a clue why it’s not happening for him. I don’t know, is he not doing enough work on his game in respects of after training? Is he still getting himself in the right positions? It seems to me he is but for £50m you don’t want someone to assist, you want someone to score. For me, maybe they should be channelling everything through him and making even more chances,” Wright said in The Sun. Without the form of Torres, Chelsea have been left with little striking options especially after the departure of Nicolas Anelka in the January transfer window.
