Arsenal have announced the signing of Cologne striker Lukas Podolski. It has been one of the worst kept secrets in football, but it has now finally become official after it was announced that Lukas Podolski will be joining Robin van Persie at the Emirates stadium next season. It is thought that both clubs have agreed on a fee worth around £ 10 million. The 26-year-old German has been at Cologne for a few seasons now, but he has grown tired of the club after their failure to compete at the top level. He was the one who insisted upon returning to Cologne after failing to settle at Bayern Munich.

Instead of challenging at the top of the table, Cologne have been down in the bottom of the table. Only the goals from Lukas Podolski he has been able to keep them in the Bundesliga. He will now attempting to do that once again when they take on Bayern Munich during the weekend. Cologne have the opportunity to make it into the play-offs against the third placed team from the second division. If they did not win against Bayern Munich, they will go down automatically. The German forward has said that he wants to help Cologne for one final time by helping them beat Bayern Munich.

“Our aim is to remain in the Bundesliga and to beat Bayern, and we have the chance to do that. When the game gets under way, I will be ready. I hope that it is uphill from here, like I was promised at the beginning. The club has got to start afresh with a new president. I hope it does not mean that everything falls apart because Podolski has gone. Cologne is and remains my club. Of course I can imagine coming back,” said the Germany forward.
