WRIGHT UNDERSTANDS

The former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has said that he understands the reasons behind the former Barcelona manager Guardiola considering Manchester city before the London club Arsenal. Guardiola has become one of the most sought-after managers in world football right now after managing to win 14 trophies with Barcelona in a period of four years. He is currently on sabbatical of one year and is widely expected to return to management from the start of next season. He has been courted by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester city, Paris St Germain, and Bayern Munich.

There have been a lot of rumours surrounding the Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has come under intense pressure in recent months. The team has been unable to lift a major trophy for the last seven seasons, which has been too long for the Arsenal fans to remain silent about according to Ian Wright. Hence, there is a feeling that Wenger might leave at the end of the season, but Guardiola has not shown any interest in taking over the Arsenal job. This is surprising given that Arsenal play a similar style of football to Barcelona, but Guardiola has not been impressed with the way the club have spent money. Further, the prospect of Champions League football will also be unavailable next season.

“Even if Arsene Wenger announced this morning that he was walking away at the end of the season — and I still think he will be around for a while — Guardiola would not want to join a club with limited spending. He would not go to any team that may not even be in the Champions League next season. The reality is that Arsenal, following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester City, are 21 points behind the leaders Manchester United. Arsenal sell their best players, with Robin van Persie the latest to move elsewhere,” said Wright.
