OZIL CHANGES THE GAME

admin 0

Arsenal’s signing of Mesut Ozil for £ 42 million from Real Madrid has been the talk of the town. This follows years of reluctance from Arsene Wenger to spend money on big name players, but he is starting to feel the difference of having a ready-made world-class player in the team. Ozil has been one of the crucial players for the club this season despite having moved to the Emirates only in the summer. He has been made along with midfielders like Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere. Former Arsenal legend Ian Wright feels that the presence of the German has given the club an instant lift.

Wright was also one of the record signings for Arsenal his time. He was brought to the club for a record £ 2.5 million back in 1995. He proved that big-money signings need not fail, as he scored more than 120 goals during his time at the club. His opinion is that Ozil also created the same kind of impact that Dennis Bergkamp brought to the club when he signed a long time ago. In fact, the German has been compared with Bergkamp, who is regarded as an Arsenal legend, on numerous occasions.

Meanwhile, Wright also reserved praise for midfielder Aaron Ramsey, who has been in great goal scoring form this season.

“He’s lifted the whole place. I said for many years, and I got a lot of stick from Arsenal supporters, that when you bring world-class players in, it lifts people. They want to play better as well. When Dennis came, everyone lifted their game. It’s taken a while now but Wenger has done it. He’s brought somebody in and it’s lifted the club. Aaron Ramsey has to get a lot of credit, too,” said the striker.

Arsenal are top of the table after 10 matches in the season.
